28 Dec 2020 Wishing all our members and local sailors a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Despite the lockdown characterising the majority of 2020 we have a lot to be proud of. SailingPE was one of the first in the country to receive their commencement certificate allowing members to get back on the water. We have begun building new relationships with other clubs and services both in the port and around the country which will put the club in good standing for the future.

SailingPE will be hosting the 2021 Laser and Finn Nationals in Algoa Bay next April which will be a real feather in the cap and an opportunity to show off our Bay once again. This, along with other planned events will be subject to the state of events early next year and we keep our fingers crossed that big regattas will be able to proceed.

With this in mind, we would like to thank all members for their compliance to the regulations over the last few months. The traceability of persons in confined spaces is vital to notify individuals of possible exposures and the online sign out keeps those records for easy retrieval. It should be noted that the need to keep this recorded on your vessel is also a requirement. The numbers continue to increase again in South Africa and there is a growing school of thought for tightening restrictions once again. We urge all boat owners to check on their vessels regularly should a lock down be re imposed.

Radio protocols remain the same and the Port have been happy to note that most vessels are calling out prior to leaving moorings. Please continue to call out on channel 12 before leaving your mooring, it can be done at the same time as signing out, and maintaining a listening watch until clear of the Port.

Once again, the SailingPE Exco wish you all the best of the season and here’s to a prosperous 2021.

Kind Regards,
The SailingPE Committee
