Sailing PE is now officially SA Sailing affiliated and is now in a position to pay SA Sailing memberships on members behalves. Due to this, Sailing PE have also taken over the administrative duties of ABYC for keelboat sailing in Port Elizabeth. We will now be applying for Port Licenses, assigning PEYS numbers, CoFs and ensuring that South African Sailing, SAMSA and Port compliances are met by our members. We are building a positive relationship for the future of sailing in Port Elizabeth.
Thank you to our members and fellow yachties that came to the flare training session at Noordehoek ski boat club. The event was very successful despite the clash with the Springbok game and the weather not playing its part. It is worth considering that, if you are ever in the situation to fire a flare for your own safety, it is likely the weather will not necessarily be favourable.
NSRI Station Commander Ian Grey demonstrated each flare type with a brief discussion. Spirit of Toft also stood off 1nm from shore and demonstrated each of the flares at sea.
The event was such a success that there has been a request to hold a further training session in November or December this year, further updates will follow when available. We encourage anyone that goes to sea to attend future demonstrations. Any expired flares will be welcome for the next session.
